Information on Other Villages

The Arlington Villages Project Team is looking at a number of other villages, both operating and in development, to better understand the issues and processes to develop the best model and organization for the unique characteristics of Arlington.

The  Arlington Villages Project is a member of the Washington Area Villages Exchange. WAVE is a forum through which nonprofit villages in the Washington D.C metropolitan area share experience and ideas.   Their website is Washington Area Villages Exchange includes a listing of the villages with a map of their location.

The  Arlington Villages Project is also a member of  the Village to Village Network  (VtV) a national peer to peer network to help establish and continuously improve management of their own villages whether in large metropolitan areas, rural towns or suburban settings. The mission of VtV is to enable communities to establish and effectively manage aging in community organizations initiated and inspired by their members.  Their website includes a listing and map of most of the villages in place or in development in the US.

One of the documents we found helpful is the Montgomery County Maryland Village Blueprint  This was published by Montgomery County in September 2010 to provide some information for groups wanting to form villages in that jurisdiction.  It provides examples of documentation from a couple existing villages and resources available in Maryland.
